1990
1990 saw Georgia Tech finish atop the RPR in a resurgent season that culminated with being the nation’s lone unbeaten and the Coaches Poll national championship following a victory in the Florida Citrus Bowl. In addition to having the best Win %, the Yellow Jackets also had top 11 finishes in SOS and Score Ratio. Four other teams, including a Colorado team that claimed the other major poll titles despite some controversial games, finished within the CCT cutoff. However, when examining the bodies of work, Georgia Tech was able to maintain an advantage over them to prevent awarding a co-champion.
