1983 saw Auburn finish atop the RPR following a SEC championship and a victory over Michigan in the Sugar Bowl. The Tigers tied for the best Win % against the nation’s top SOS. Three other teams – Nebraska, Texas, and consensus poll national champion Miami – all finished within the CCT cutoff. When deep diving into the other teams though, I didn’t see enough to warrant naming a co-champion alongside the Tigers.
