1974

1974 saw AP champion (and bowl-ineligible) Oklahoma finish atop the RPR. The nation’s lone perfect team, the Sooners also had the best Score Ratio and Top 15 Score Ratio as well. SEC champion Alabama finished within the CCT cutoff, but after deeper evaluation, I determined they weren’t eligible for co-champion status. USC – the consensus champion from the polls that banned Oklahoma due to their NCAA punishment – fell far below the threshold consideration.

Note: I rated 127 teams instead of 129, which most rating systems rate for the 1974 season. Based on NCAA Football Record books, the following schools weren’t considered “major college”/FBS-equivalent for 1974 and were not rated: Arkansas State and Chattanooga.

Co-champion Consideration Threshold: 0.0348; CCT Cutoff: 0.7075
